The Windows 10 operating system will turn off the monitor once the computer is left idle for several minutes and this is very helpful to save electricity. By default, the idle time that is set to 10 minutes and this can be changed through the Settings panel. Once the operating system turned off the monitor, you can simply move the mouse or hit any key on the keyboard to wake it up. You can also set the operating system not to turn off the monitor at all even if it was left idle for several hours. You would prefer this setting if you are constantly monitoring an activity on the screen like CCTV security.
Here are the steps to set the Windows 10 operating system not to turn off the monitor after being left idle.
1. Right-click on the START button that is usually located at the bottom left corner of the screen and choose SETTINGS option.
2. Click the SYSTEM category.
3. Click the POWER & SLEEP category on the left pane of the Settings window.
4. Click the pull down menu labeled "When plugged in, turn off after" that is right under the "Screen" category.
5. Scroll down the options to the bottom.
6. Click the NEVER option.
7. Click the X button that is located at the top right corner of the Settings window.
