Set Google Chrome As Default Browser On Desktop Computer

The Google Chrome software is one of the most used browsers for desktop computers as well as on mobile devices and it is also based on the Chromium engine. If you are using Windows operating system, the default browser is the Internet Explorer which will automatically be used when opening links from software other than any browsers installed on the computer. For example, it is common for software nowadays to direct their help option online instead of pulling a file locally. This means that help pages for the software will be opened in the Internet Explorer even if you have other browsers installed on the computer like Google Chrome or Brave. If your Internet Explorer is not being updated anymore and you want links from other software to be opened in the Google Chrome browser, you just need to set the Google Chrome browser to be the default browser on your computer.

Here are the steps to set the Google Chrome to be the default browser.

1. Click on the CUSTOMIZE AND CONTROL icon that looks like three dots arranged vertically located on the top right corner of the Google Chrome window, then click on SETTINGS option.

2. Scroll down the page until you reach the "Default browser" category.

3. Click the MAKE DEFAULT button.

4. Click on GOOGLE CHROME from the list of installed browsers.
