Find Windows 8.1 & 10 Product Key

The Product Key of an installed Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 operating system is not readily available on their interfaces and you will need to use a special software to be able to find it. On the other hand, there is a very easy way to find the Product Key on an installed Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 through the command prompt. It is important to be able to find the product key of your installed Windows operating system if you are reinstalling it because you will be prompted to provide it at the start of the reinstallation. On new computers, especially on laptops that came with pre-installed Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems, the product key is usually already embedded in the BIOS chip, in this case, it is most likely that your computer does not actually have the sticker that shows the product key of your pre-installed Windows operating system. Though you will not be asked for a product key anymore when you reinstall the Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 for computers where their product key is already embedded in the BIOS, it is still important to have your product key available anytime just in case the reinstallation process suddenly asked for it. This situation might happen if in case you will be using a different restore disc or if you changed hardware modules like memory or hard drive.

Here are the steps to find the product key of an installed Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 operating system through the command prompt.

1. Right-click on the START button which is usually located on the bottom left corner of the screen, then choose RUN option. Alternatively, you can press the WINDOWS key on the keyboard which is in between the CTRL and ALT keys, while pressing it, hit the R key.


2. Type CMD.EXE or simply CMD into the Run box. Then click OK button.


3. Type or copy & paste wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey into the command prompt, then hit the ENTER key on the keyboard.


The twenty five (5 x 5) alpha numeric combination Product Key of your Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 will show up.
