Windows 8.1 Startup Sound Not Playing

The Windows operating systems are accompanied with variety of sound events like the famous welcome sound or the startup sound on Windows 8.1 version. Right after you turned on the computer with a Windows operating system, you will be welcomed by a melodic sound which you can change on previous versions of Windows through the sound control panel but not on Windows 8.1 without actually tweaking the operating system. Personally, I like the Windows welcome sounds simply because they are melodic to me. Many years ago, I helped a friend of mine to setup her computer and I recorded a personalized message welcoming her by her name and used that to replace the default Windows XP welcome sound. It is possible to turn on and off the Windows welcome sound and if the startup sound on Windows 8.1 is not playing, one of the possible causes is that it was turned off.

Here are the steps to turn on the startup sound on Windows 8.1.

1. Right-click on a free area of the desktop and choose PERSONALIZE option.

2. Click the SOUNDS icon.

3. Click the check box labeled "Play Windows Startup sound" to put a check in it.

4. Click OK button.
