The Windows XP Automatic Updates provides high-priority updates for the security of the computer against malicious software, and it also provides other critical updates for stability and performance. The Automatic Updates finds and downloads the updates in the background while you are connected to the internet and they do not interfere with other ongoing downloads of your own as well as it will not notify you when there is an ongoing update. The downloaded updates will be installed at three in the morning by default if you left your computer turned on else they will be installed the next time you turn on your computer. Since the Automatic Updates consumes internet connection bandwidth, this is not recommended if you are on a limited or metered data internet connection.
