The memory module of the computer, which is also known as RAM (Random Access Memory), is the part that stores information that are actively being processed or used. The memory module is volatile which means that the information stored in it are lost when the computer is turned off and they only come back once the computer is turned back on and the same information are used again. The more memory the computer have, the faster it will be because the computer will have more space to work on with the information that it needs to process. Therefore, if you want your computer to run faster, you will need to upgrade its memory modules and or add more if there are still unused memory slots. This is also important if you have a software or games that requires high memory. The first thing that you will need to know when upgrading the memory modules of the computer is to know if what kinds of memory modules you need to buy or their specifications.

Here are the steps to determine the specifications of the memory (RAM) installed on the computer with Windows 8.1 operating system.

1. Right-click the START button located on the bottom left corner of the screen and choose TASK MANAGER option.


2. Click the PERFORMANCE tab of the the Task Manager window.


3. Click the MEMORY category on the left pane.


The specifications of the memory (RAM) is now shown. For this specific computer, there is only one memory module inserted in one of the memory slots of the motherboard. The memory module has 2.0 GB of capacity, with DDR3 technology, with speed of 1600 MHz, and with a SODIMM form factor.
