Turn Off A Start Screen Live Tile On Windows 8.1

The Start screen of the Windows 8.1 operating system is very different from the previous versions of Windows where it covers the whole desktop view, does not have the All Programs menu, and it has Live Tiles. The Live Tiles are also icons that varies in sizes but they are updating every time you connect to the internet. For example, the Weather Live Tile updates on the weather forecast where the forecast appears right on the icon itself. The Live Tiles can be removed and added to the Start screen by pinning them. The Live Tiles on the Start screen consumes bandwidth too when they update especially if you have too many of them updating at the same time. Therefore, the Live Tiles are not practical if you are on metered internet connection or on limited data plan only because they will consume the limited data plan that you have until you do not have the data to consume anymore for the things that you intend to access on the internet. Likewise, since they are consuming bandwidth, they can also make your internet connection slower even if you are on unlimited internet connection. It is most likely that the default Live Tiles on the Start screen are things that you do not even need, therefore, you can either remove them or at least turn them off.
