The Task Manager is a GUI window in the Windows 8.1 operating system that lists the applications that are running as well as the background processes indicating their statuses like if how much system resources they are using, if they are not responding, etc. The Task Manager is one of the built-in system applications of the Windows 8.1 and its executable file is taskmgr.exe that you can directly execute through the Run command. The Task Manager of Windows 8.1 now includes a Startup tab that lists the applications that automatically starts every time you turn on the computer, from here, you can also set if which application that you want to disable from automatically starting. The Task Manager can be useful for closing applications that have frozen and cannot be closed normally.
