Choose When To Turn Off Display On Windows 8.1

The display (also called screen or monitor) of the computer can be set to automatically turn off by itself if the computer was left idle to conserve energy. This feature is mostly helpful if the computer is a laptop and operating on battery. However, if the computer is plugged in to the electrical outlet, choosing a longer time before the display turns off would be acceptable. On Windows 8.1 operating system, you have separate option for choosing the time when the display will turn off for either while the laptop is on battery or while plugged in to the electrical outlet. Understandably, you will choose to turn off the display sooner when it is operating on battery than while it is plugged in because we want to conserve the energy saved on the battery.

Here the steps to choose when to turn off the display (monitor) on Windows 8.1.

1. Right-click the START button and choose POWER OPTIONS.

2. Click the CHOOSE WHEN TO TURN OFF THE DISPLAY link.

3. From here on, you can now choose when to turn off the display. In this case, I choose to turn off the display after an hour while plugged in by clicking the pull down menu labeled "Turn off the display:" under the "Plugged in" category, then choose 1 HOUR option.

4. Click the SAVE CHANGES button.
