Format USB Flash Drive On Windows 8.1

Newly bought USB Flash Drives are pre-formatted already, therefore, there is no need to format it anymore and that you can use it right away to store files. Though there may be instances that a new USB Flash Drive is not yet formatted, but I guess this is very seldom already. Another reason why you may want to format a USB Flash Drive is if it got a virus or if you want to give it away. When you format a hard drive (as well as USB Flash Drives), you have the option to Quick Format it or Full Format it. The Quick Format is very fast while the Full Format is very long because the computer will write random data on every space while the Quick Format does not. If you are giving away a USB Flash Drive, it is best if you Full Format it so that any old data in it, even if you have deleted them, will be permanently deleted. In this way, the next owner of your USB Flash Drive will not be able to retrieve your old files.

Here are the steps to do a Quick Format on a USB Flash Drive on Windows 8.1.

1. Right-click on the USB Flash Drive that you want to format and choose FORMAT... option.

2. Click the START button.

3. Click OK button on the warning dialogue box and the formatting will start.

4. Click OK button once the format is complete.

5. Click the CLOSE button.
