Hide Windows 8.1 File Explorer Ribbon

The toolbar of the File Explorer (Windows Explorer) of the Windows 8.1 has a strip full of icons called the Ribbon. The Ribbon takes at least an inch space of the screen but it is useful because you can click on the icon of a task right away instead of pulling down the menus. You can think of it as an expanded view of a menu and the tasks are iconized. If you have a small screen, especially if you are using a laptop with 11.6" screen, your viewing area below the Ribbon will be limited. From time to time, you may need to minimize the Ribbon so that you will have more space below it.

Here are the steps to minimize the Ribbon.

1. Click the icon that looks like an arrow pointing downwards that is located in the top left corner of the File Explorer window, then click MINIMIZE THE RIBBON option.

The Ribbon is now hidden.
