Set Internet Explorer As Default Browser On Windows XP

The internet has made people create different browsers to compete each other. By default, the Internet Explorer is the default browser of the Windows XP operating system, of course, because the Internet Explorer is made by Microsoft too. When you set a certain browser as the default browser on your computer, any webpage file will be associated to the default browser. This means that if you open an HTML file on your computer, the operating system will automatically call the default browser set on the computer to open the file. For example, if the default browser on your computer is the Mozilla Firefox browser, all HTML files saved on the computer will be defaulted to the Mozilla Firefox browser. One way to know if what browser is the default browser set on the computer is by the icon being represented by the HTML files. Therefore, all HTML files will bear the icon of the Mozilla Firefox if it is the default browser on the computer.

The Mozilla Firefox is currently set as the default browser of the computer as indicated by the Firefox icon of this HTML file.


Here are the steps to set back the Internet Explorer as the default browser of the Windows XP if another browser is currently set as default.

1. Click the START button located on the bottom left corner of the screen and click CONTROL PANEL option.


2. Click ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS category.


3. Click the SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND DEFAULTS button on the left column.


4. Click the drop down arrow for CUSTOM configuration.


5. Click the INTERNET EXPLORER on the list of browsers.


6. Click OK button and wait for the process to finish.



The default browser is now Internet Explorer as indicated by the Internet Explorer icon for the HTML file.
