Turn Off Windows Firewall On Windows XP

The Windows Firewall is a software type of a firewall that is part of the Windows XP operating system. The firewall will keep your computer safe from hackers and malicious software like spyware. Without the firewall, viruses and worms will try to connect to your computer without your knowledge, infect it, and make your computer run very slow. On the other hand, spyware will snoop information from your computer and send it to whoever is the intended recipient, and without your knowledge too. Spyware will also make your computer run very slow. The firewall checks every data that is being sent to your computer to see if the data are harmful or not. The Windows Firewall is turned on by default on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, there are times that you might just need to turn off the Windows Firewall for a certain software to operate properly. Or to check if it is the Windows Firewall that is causing problem on you newly installed software that is required to connect to the internet.

Here are the steps on how to turn off the Windows Firewall on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

1. Click the START button located in the bottom left corner of the screen and click CONTROL PANEL option.


2. Click the SECURITY CENTER link with the shield icon.


3. Click WINDOWS FIREWALL link with the brick wall icon.


4. Click on OFF (NOT RECOMMENDED) option with the red shield with X in it.


5. Click OK button to save the settings.
