De-Associate Archive File From WinRAR

Almost all known archive files or compressed files will be associated to the WinRAR software after its installation. Though you have to option to choose which archive file to associate with the WinRAR during its installation, you still have the option which file to associate or de-associate with the WinRAR software afterwards. Associating a file format to a software means that the file will be automatically opened by the software it is associated with. An example is if you associated a .txt file format to the WordPad software, any file with the extension of .txt will be opened in the WordPad software when you double-click them. The .zip file format is the default archive file format on Windows XP when archive files. If the .zip archive file format is currently associated with WinRAR, you can deassociate it from it so that it will open through Windows XP instead.

1. Click OPTIONS from the menu bar across the top of WinRaR and click SETTINGS... option.


2. Click the INTEGRATION tab across the top of the Settings dialogue box.


3. Click the "ZIP" under the "Associate WinRAR with" to remove the check in its tick box.


4. Click OK button.
