Check If Windows XP Is 32-bit Or 64-bit

Knowing the version of your Windows Operating system is important most especially if you are installing a software because software are designed or meant to work for a specific version of operating system. There are times that the software will install successfully on the operating system that it was not designed for, like installing a software designed for Windows XP into a Windows Vista operating system, but the software will not work as expected. And conveniently, there are software that will prevent you from installing in the first place for any attempt in installing it on an operating system that it was not designed for. In the advent of the 64-bit computing, not only the version of operating system that you need to know about when installing a software because software are now also designed if it was meant to an operating system that is running on 32-bit or 64-bit computing. This is most especially true when installing device drivers.

1. Click START button and click RUN option.


2. Type sysdm.cpl into the "Open:" box, and then click OK button.


3. Under the GENERAL tab, you can determine if the Windows XP operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- For 32-bit, the "System" category shows:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version (year)
- For 64-bit, the "System" category shows:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version (year)


4. Click OK button to close the System Properties window.
