Add Active Desktop Web Page

On Windows XP, you can add active desktop web pages or pictures. The active desktop web page appears to be part of the desktop background (wallpaper) and you can move it around. The active desktop web page is usable as an ordinary web page like when you open it in a browser. It is called active desktop web page because the desktop is refreshing the web page to show the latest update on the web page itself. Using the active desktop web page feature is useless if you will just use a web page that does not update anymore because what was in the web page at the time you put that web page as an active desktop web page on your desktop will always be the same. Therefore, you should use a web page that is constantly updating for you to harness the full potential of the feature.

The best use of an active desktop web page is if you have a web site that is constantly updating, say a finance page where you can always monitor the stock market.

1. Right-click on an empty area on the desktop view and choose PROPERTIES.

2. Click the DESKTOP tab.

3. Click the CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP... button.

4. Click the WEB tab.

5. Click the NEW button.

6. Type http://generalcomputers.blogspot.com/ or the web address of the web page that you want to set as the active desktop web page. Then click OK button.

7. Click OK button.

8. Wait for the web page to load.

9. Click OK button.

10. Click OK button on the Display Properties window.

11. The active desktop web page will now appear as part of the desktop background (wallpaper).

12. Hover the mouse pointer at the top edge of the active desktop web page and its toolbar will appear. Click the "maximize" button to make it larger.

The active desktop web page can be set to cover part of the desktop view or the whole it will appear like a background.
