The Taskbar buttons or icons are combined starting on the Windows 8.1 operating system when you have multiple windows opened from the same program or application which makes multi-tasking difficult. On the other hand, you can set the Taskbar buttons not to combine so that it is easy to switch from one window to another of the same program or application. This is the same with the awesome Windows XP where the Taskbar buttons don't combine, and you can also install a small program to interchange the positions of any of the Taskbar buttons. You know right away which Taskbar button to click when they are not combined.
