Disable Sleep Mode When Computer Left Idle On Windows 8.1

The display will turn off and the computer will sleep when left idle for a certain period of time to save on energy. If you set a login password for your operating system, the login screen will prompt you for the password once you wake the computer from its sleep. You can always break the idle time by simply moving the mouse or hitting on any key on the keyboard. For example, if the display was set to turn off after 10 minutes and the computer was left idle for almost 8 minutes already, just move the mouse and the time will reset from the start. If however you are downloading a big file that will take hours, it is recommended to disable the sleep mode so that you can do other chores and have a glance at the display from time to time to keep track on the progress of the downloading.

Here are the steps to disable the sleep mode on Windows 8.1 operating system.
1. Right click on the START button that is usually located on the bottom left corner of the screen, and then choose the POWER OPTIONS on the menu.

2. Depending on the power plan currently set on the computer which in this case it is set on "Balanced (recommended)", click the CHANGE PLAN SETTINGS link for it.

3. Click the pull down menu for "Turn off the display:" under the "On battery" category and choose NEVER option.

4. Next, click the pull down menu for "Put the computer to sleep:" under the "On battery" category and choose NEVER option.
