Google created a Chrome browser extension that is called Data Saver that will minimize the data that you will use when you open webpages. When you open webpages, some of the traffic will go through the Google servers first before getting downloaded to your computer, when this happens, the Google servers will compress the webpages files, then send them to your computer. Because of this, you will now use lesser amount of data due to the smaller webpages files that you have to download. This method is useful if your internet connection is slow and will save you money since you will not consume that much data. On the other hand, there will be some drawbacks where some websites will have trouble finding your location, it may not work on local network pages, and you may not be able to sign in to your mobile carrier's website. The Data Saver will not also work if you browse using Incognito since this setup will disable your extensions.
Here are the steps to install the Google Data Saver extension for Chrome browser.
1. Type Data Saver into the search bar of the Google Chrome browser.
2. Click the DATA SAVER - GOOGLE CHROME link in the search result.
3. Click the ADD TO CHROME button.
4. Click the ADD EXTENSION button.
The Data Saver extension will now install.
5. Click the X button once the installation is done.
The Data Saver icon will now appear on the top right portion of your Google Chrome browser along with the other active extensions that you have if there are any.
