Bypass Windows 8.1 Start Screen And Boot Directly To The Desktop

The Windows 8 user interface was designed based on mobile devices, that is why the Start screen is the first screen that appears after turning on the computer instead of the Desktop view. This is also the same behavior on the newer Windows 8.1 but you have the option to bypass the Start screen and boot directly to the Desktop screen. Booting directly to the desktop view is the most convenient because this is the practice on the older versions of the Windows operating system. It is definitely convenient to boot directly to the Desktop view because all the tools, files, and folders that you setup are all there, that is why Microsoft put a setting on the newer Windows 8.1 to go directly to the Desktop screen instead of the Start screen.

Here are the steps to set Windows 8.1 to boot directly to the Desktop screen.

1. Right-click on an empty section of the Windows taskbar and choose PROPERTIES option to open the "Taskbar and Navigation properties" dialog box.

2. Click the NAVIGATION tab.

3. Put a check in the check box labeled "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" to put a check in it.

4. Click OK button.
