Disable "There are unused icons on your desktop" On Windows XP

The Windows XP checks the desktop for icons that are not used and it will inform you from time to time with a message "There are unused icons on your desktop" so that you can choose to run the Desktop Cleanup Wizard. The Desktop Cleanup Wizard will clean up the desktop by moving unused shortcut icons to a desktop folder called Unused Desktop Shortcuts. The wizard does not move, change or delete any of the programs pertaining to the shortcuts and you can move these shortcut back to the desktop from the Unused Desktop Shortcuts folder. Or course, it does not mean that you do not use an icon on the desktop does not mean you do not want it there. Therefore, you can simply disable the "There are unused icons on your desktop" message so that it does not appear anymore.

Here are the steps to disable the "There are unused icons on your desktop" balloon message on Windows XP.

1. Right-click on any free area of the desktop and choose PROPERTIES option.

2. Click the DESKTOP tab of the Display Properties window.

3. Click the CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP... button.

4. Click the check box labeled "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days" to remove the check in it.

5. Click OK button.

6. Click OK button again of the Display Properties window.
