Hide Winamp 5.65 Button When Minimized

The Winamp media player is an MP3 music player which is one of the most early media players that was created for the Windows operating system and became one of the most downloaded programs. The MP3 music file format became the foremost format for songs that when people think of music, the MP3 became synonymous to it. Though Winamp is popular with the MP3 music format, it can also play other formats like AAC, FLAC, M4A, MIDI, MOD, MPEG, WAV and WMA. The Winamp is extensible with plug-ins and skins but what made Winamp popular in my opinion is its classic skin that mimics a real stereo especially with its equalizer. If you are working on the computer and want to listen to music, you will of course open Winamp to play your songs and then minimize it since listening to music does not necessarily need visualization of the media player. A very good option that Winamp has is to be able to minimize it to the notification area of Windows 8.1 instead of it going to the Taskbar. In this way, the Winamp button will not add up to the other buttons on the Taskbar thereby giving you more space to work on and enjoy the music at the same time.

The Winamp media player minimized in the Taskbar.

Here are the steps to set the Winamp 5.65 media player to minimize to the the notification area of the Windows 8.1.

1. Click the icon that looks like a slanted X that is located on the top left corner of the Winamp window, choose OPTIONS, and then click on PREFERENCES... option.

2. Under the GENERAL PREFERENCES tab of the Winamp Preferences window, click the check box labeled "Notification area" that is under the "Show Winamp in:" category to put a check in it.

3. Click the X button of the Winamp Preferences window to close it.
