The Internet Explorer software is the default browser of the Windows operating systems and it is one of the most used browsers in the world. When the browser accesses a website to open a webpage on your computer, it will download the webpage files to your computer which are called temporary internet files. The temporary internet files are used by the browser for it to be able to quickly open the same webpage again on your computer instead of it fetching the same files again from server. The Internet Explorer also stores the cookies of the websites that you access to your computer. The cookies are small text files that the websites uses to store your preferences with them. The browser also lists the websites that you have visited, the name of the files that you downloaded, the form data, and other information that may be considered private. The temporary internet files may not consume too much hard drive space but they can accumulate to a certain degree to the point that you need to clear them to free up disk space. Likewise, old temporary internet files can cause unexpected problems when accessing websites like showing an outdated webpage, slowness, etc. From time to time, it is recommended that you delete the browsing history of the browser to free up disk space, prevent future problems, and as well as for security reasons.
