The Run box also known as the run command is a GUI console to directly type a command to open a directory, an application, and especially the Windows tools that are not readily available on the Control Panel. The Run option is not directly accessible through the Start menu of the Windows 8.1 unlike on the Windows XP, but you can right-click on the START button of the Windows 8.1 and access the Run option there. You can also use the Run box to open a website into the default browser by simply typing the web address and hit the ENTER key of the keyboard. All the commands that you type in the Run box are being recorded but you have the option to clear them.
Here are the steps to clear the Run box history on Windows 8.1.
1. Right-click on the free area of the Windows Taskbar and choose PROPERTIES option.

2. Click the JUMP LISTS tab.

3. Click the tick box labeled "Store recently opened programs" to remove the check in it and click the APPLY button.

4. Click the tick box again for the "Store recently opened programs" to put back the check in it and click the OK button.
