Boot Windows 8.1 Without Startup Items

The Startup items are programs, usually small, that automatically runs when turning on the computer so that they can do their intended task right away. If you have many Startup items, they can usually slow down the boot up time of the computer. There are also times that one of the Startup items is corrupted or has conflicts with other programs or with the Windows 8.1 operating system itself that will cause the computer to freeze. One way to test if one of the Startup items is causing the slowness or freezing of the computer is to boot the Windows 8.1 operating system without the Startup items loading up by disabling them through the msconfig panel. Therefore, if the computer did not freeze after turning it on without the Startup items loading up, this means that one of the Startup items is causing the problem.

Here are the steps to boot the Windows 8.1 operating system without the Startup items.

1. Right-click on the START button and choose RUN option.

2. Type msconfig into the "Open:" field box.

3. Click OK button.

4. Click on the "Selective startup" radio dial.

5. Click on the "Load startup items" check box to remove the check box in it.

6. Click OK button.

7. Click RESTART button.
