The Service Pack is a compilation of security features and their default setting. As the internet grew, many malicious software and tactics have been developed to meddle on your computer. Such malicious software are viruses, spyware, malware, and other software that pose security threat on your computer system. The Service Pack of Windows XP make sure that your computer system has the needed security features and the optimum setting they need. On the other hand, you might have a legitimate software that you need to install on your computer but it depend only on the lower security settings for it to work, which will of course increase the security risks to your computer. And there are also times that the software that you need to install requires a specific version of the Service Pack. In this case, you should find if what is the version of Service Pack on your Windows XP.
1. Click the START button on the bottom left corner of the screen and click CONTROL PANEL option.
2. Click the PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE category.
3. Click the SYSTEM icon.
4. Under "System" category of the "General" tab, you will now find the version of the Service Pack of Windows XP. In this case, it is Service Pack 2 (or SP2). Click OK button to close the System Properties Window.
