Change Shortcut Icon Description On Windows XP

A yellow rectangular strip will appear with the description of the shortcut icon that the mouse pointer is hovering on. You can try this by hovering your mouse pointer on one of the shortcut icons on your desktop view. By default, this yellow rectangular strip will indicate the location of the executable file of the shortcut icon is pointing to. And there are times it will describe what the program does. You have the liberty to change the description that is showing in this yellow rectangular strip to the one that will better fit your need if there need be. For example, if you need to remind yourself about the program before you open it. Or even change the description to a different language. However, this option to change the description of the icon is not applicable to the default desktop icons of Windows XP, particularly the My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places, and the Recycle Bin icons.

Here are the steps to change the description of a desktop shortcut icon on Windows XP.

1. Right-click on the shortcut icon and choose PROPERTIES option.

2. Type your desired description in the "Comment:" box.

3. Click OK button.
