Enable NUM LOCK Key After Logging To Windows XP

Have you ever found typing your password that has letters and numbers in it and found out that you just typed in a wrong password because you got a message that the password that you just entered is incorrect? This happens all the time and you keep asking yourself if what happened even though you know very well in yourself that you typed your password correctly. And then you try to type it again very slowly making sure that you type each letters and numbers correctly. Unfortunately, you got the same incorrect password message again. Now you're infuriated and you type your password all over again with double care in typing each letters and numbers. Sadly, you got the same message again that you typed the wrong password. Until you found out that the NUM LOCK is turned off that is why no matter how careful you type the letters and numbers of your password, you always get a message that you type in the wrong password. There is the culprit, the NUM LOCK key is turned off all along that is why the numbers that you type does not come into the password box.

The solution to this is to turn on the NUM LOCK option of your computer so that it is automatically turned on every time you turn on the computer. Though the NUM LOCK is actually turned on by default by most computers but this is not always the case. Also, what if the person who assembled your computer forgets the NUM LOCK option to be on by default?

And this one is also important, that there are times that you need to have the NUM LOCK option turned off every time you turn on the computer, which in this case is the opposite. Well, this is the case for some laptops. Because for the laptops, there are times that the keyboard of the laptop does not have a numeric keypad but uses the letters keys in the middle of the keyboard as the numeric keypad by toggling between letter keys and number keys. So if you are using a laptop and the NUM LOCK is automatically on every time you start the laptop, you always have to toggle the numeric keypad to the letter keys mode.

There are two ways to turn on the NUM LOCK key on the computer. The first one is through the BIOS system setup and the second one is through the Windows operating system registry. And here is the second method on how to enable the NUM LOCK through the registry of the Windows XP, which is also applicable on Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems as well.

1. Click the START button and click RUN option.

2. Type regedit into the Run box and click OK button.

3. Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER category by clicking the [+] sign before it.

4. Expand the CONTROL PANEL category by clicking the [+] sign before it.
