Find Executable File Of Desktop Shortcut Icon In Windows XP

The icons of the software installed on the computer that shows in the desktop view are actually only shortcut icons that points to the true executable file of the software. The executable file of the software is the file that will launch it into the screen to use it. There are times that will arise where you need to locate the executable file of the program through its desktop icon to create new shortcut icons for it on other areas of the computer, like for example, in the Start menu. You can also use the method of locating the executable file of the program to open the folder where the program is installed. Like if there are multiple installations of the same program on the computer and you are troubleshooting on one of them or doing experiments with its files.

1. Right-click on the shortcut icon of the program that is on the desktop and choose PROPERTIES option.


2. Click FIND TARGET... button.


The folder of the program where it is installed will open and the executable is highlighted.
