View Drives Through Disk Management

The best way to be able to view the drives on the computer is through the Disk Management area of the Windows XP operating system. The Disk Management window allows you to be able to see all the drives on the computer graphically. It also shows the properties of the drives such as Volume, Layout (Partition), File System (FAT32, NTFS), Capacity, Free Space among others. You will be able to see if how many physical Hard Disk Drives (HDD) that you actually have on the computer and their partitions if any.

Here are the steps to go to the Disk Management window of Windows XP and how to determine if how many physical drives are there installed and if it is partitioned.

1. Click the START button and right-click on the MY COMPUTER, then choose MANAGE.


2. Click the DISK MANAGEMENT on the left pane.


On the picture above, the Disk 0 is the primary physical Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which is 232.88 GB (Giga Bytes) and it is partitioned in two which are the (C:) with 146.48 GB and the (D:) with 86.39 GB. Both partitions were formatted in the NTFS technology which is the usual file format that the Windows XP operating system uses.
