Enable Guest Account On Windows XP

You can set the Windows XP operating system to require a password after you turned on the computer to restrict other people from gaining access. Therefore, if you set a password on your Windows XP and you want other people to be able to use your computer without being able to mess up your personal settings, you can enable the Guest account. The Guest account is a built-in account on Windows XP for the purpose of other people being able to use your computer as if they have a separate account on your computer with their own settings. This is helpful for example if your relatives will be coming over to your house and will stay for a couple of days and you want them to be able to use your computer without them being able to alter your personal settings.

You must be logged on from an account with administrator priviledges before you can enable or turn on the Guest account. Here are the steps on how to enable the Guest account on Windows XP.

1. Click the START button located on the bottom left corner of the screen, then choose CONTROL PANEL option.

2. On the Control Panel window, click the USER ACCOUNTS icon.

3. Click the USER ACCOUNTS under the "or pick a Control Panel icon" category.

4. Then click the GUEST account under the "or pick an account to change" category. Notice that the Guest icon also says "Guest account is off", that is why it is not showing up on the sign on window of Window XP.

5. Click the TURN ON THE GUEST ACCOUNT button.

You will now be reverted to the User Accounts window and notice that the Guest icon now says "Guest account is on".

You will now see the Guest account log-in icon on the sign on window of Windows XP, just click on it to enter it.
